Biddeford

Alberta M. Czerwinski, 85, of Biddeford, passed away peacefully at home, with her family by her side on Saturday, May 27, 2023.

Alberta was born in Biddeford on March 19, 1938.  She was the daughter of Albert and Irene (Lazzaro) Potvin, but was raised primarily by her grandmother who she affectionately called "Nonna".  She was educated in the Biddeford school system and graduated from Biddeford High School.  During her time in high school Alberta was captain of the Cheerleading squad, and she also spent many hours on the ice at Westbrook Skating Rink.

Alberta found great joy in caring for and being compassionate to others. In the late 70's she helped form Caring Unlimited, a domestic violence resource center offering direct support and safety planning services to anyone impacted by domestic violence.  She then worked for a number of years for the Biddeford Welfare department.  Later in life she joined Community Partners, an organization that offers support to people with disabilities helping them live healthy and joyful lives.  She formed life-long friendships with both the staff she worked with and the clients she served.

Alberta was a deeply caring mother. She raised six loving children, Louis, Mark, Corrine, Cynthia, Vincent, and Dean.  She devoted countless hours supporting them in all their activities, from musical performances and plays, to academic award nights at school.

There were many things that Alberta enjoyed doing in her pastime, but some of the more notable hobbies included playing card games and Bingo, cooking for family and loved ones, dancing, spending time at the beach, and going on camping trips with her children. She had an amazing talent for decorating, and many had told her through the years that she should have been an interior decorator. Her drive for helping others even flowed into her time away from work, as she co-founded a teen's center on Main Street in Biddeford called "Cisum Café".

Most of all Alberta loved family, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who meant the world to her. She loved her tiny dog Divo, who she left in the care of her daughter Cynthia.  She will be dearly missed by many.

Alberta was predeceased by her three sisters, Cynthia, Celia, and Sharon.

She is survived by her six children, Louis Andreoli, Mark Andreoli and wife Michele, Corrine Andreoli, Cynthia Powers and husband Robert, Vincent Andreoli and partner Mary, and Dean Andreoli; by seven grandchildren, Missy, Robbie, Mike, Jess, Anj, Mark, and Niko; and by 4 great-grandchildren, Derek, Vianna, Mikey and Gabe.

A graveside funeral is scheduled for 1:00pm on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at St. Mary's Cemetery in Biddeford.
