Ann Doherty

Biddeford

Ann Doherty, (nee McLoughlin) of Biddeford, Maine passed away peacefully on Friday, March 14, 2025 surrounded by her family.  She was 96 years old.

She was born in Killasser, Swinford, Co. Mayo, Ireland on May 3, 1928 to James and Annie (O'Grady) McLoughlin.

Ann is predeceased by her husband, Edward J. Doherty.

She is survived by her children Ann Marie McDonough (Paul) Biddeford, Maine, Edward H. Doherty (Marie) of Westmont, Illinois and Hugh F. Doherty of Downers Grove, Illinois.

She is also survived by grandchildren Maureen Lyons (Edward), Meghan McDonough (Timothy St. Lawrence), Brian and Caitlin Doherty, as well great-grandchildren Fiona, Edward, Darcy, and Brendan Lyons and Winifred St. Lawrence.

Ann is also survived by her siblings Theresa O'Donnell of Streamwood, Illinois, Sister Mary St. Mark of Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, and in County Mayo, Ireland, Nuala Kilgallon of Swinford, Una Dunleavy of Killasser and Seamus McLoughlin (Sarah) of Killasser along with many nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her sister Mary O. Turner and brothers Mark, Patrick, and John McLoughlin.

Ann was the second oldest of ten children.  She often shared fond memories of life growing up with her nine siblings on the hills of sweet Mayo. At the age of nineteen she emigrated to the United States and made New York City her home.

Ann's early years in New York City included a career with BOAC airlines of which she was very proud. This allowed her many trips back home which was uncommon in those days.

In 1956 she met the love of her life Edward Doherty at the County Mayo St. Patrick's Day Dance in the Bronx. They married on July 6, 1957, and enjoyed 64 years together.

From New York City, Ann and Ed moved to Norwood, New Jersey where they were residents for 40 years and raised their three children.

After retirement, they spent summers in Maine and enjoyed many winters in Port Charlotte, Florida.

Family and friends are invited for a period of visitation on Saturday, March 29, 2025 from 9:00 am - 10:30 am at Cote Funeral Home, 87 James Street, Saco, Maine 04072 followed by an 11:00 am Mass of Christian Burial at Most Holy Trinity, 271 Main Street, Saco, Maine 04072.

Ann will be laid to rest with her beloved husband in the spring or early summer at the Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery in Springvale, Maine.
