Barbara Ann Townsend, 90, of Old Orchard Beach, passed away on Thursday, April 10, 2025 at Seaside Skilled Rehabilitation Center in Portland.

She was born in Biddeford on January 29, 1935, a daughter of Elmer and Olive (Bennette) Hilton.

Barbara graduated from Old Orchard Beach High School, class of 1952.

She married her husband Philip "Dicky" Townsend July 10, 1954 and the couple raised six children together.

From the generation of hard work, Barbara worked in various industries. She was employed by Portland School of the Deaf and for Westpoint Pepperell in Biddeford for eight years. She stayed home for several years to be a homemaker, something Barbara loved. Entering back into the work force, she spent four years at the Cascade Restaurant in Saco and 22 years at Zayre's / Ames, retiring in 1997.

Barbara's life revolved around her family. Everything they did, they did it together. Camping, fishing and boating. Holidays, special occasions and weekends were the best. She loved wintering in Florida with Philip and each day they spent together. She will be sadly missed.

Mostly recently she had a new interest. Making beads that symbolized hope and love for anyone and everyone who asked. She was known for Barbara's beads and the good fortune they brought. These special works of love are still being enjoyed by many today.

She was predeceased by her husband Philip on July 29, 2017, by two children Susan Townsend and Bruce Townsend and by two siblings Lorraine Tibbetts and Robert Hilton.

She is survived by four children Lyn Gervais and husband Mark, Richard Townsend and wife Debra, Philip Townsend II and wife Lisa and Denise Coutu and husband Pierre.

She also leaves behind 10 grandchildren Thomas Townsend and wife Lauren, Michael Gervais and wife Ashley, Kyle Townsend, Emily Townsend, Amanda Townsend, Nicole Lloyd and husband Sean, Peter Coutu, Susan Townsend, Bruce Townsend and Crystal Townsend and 12 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
