Bertrand R. Gagne
Biddeford
Bertrand R. Gagne, 90, of Biddeford, passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 at home, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Biddeford on March 1, 1935, a son of Romeo and Eugenie (Dallaire) Gagne. He graduated from St. Louis High School.
Bert is a lifelong member of the Biddeford community. A star athlete in high school, he became a well known barber, a profession he practiced for 60 years. Starting in 1955, he owned and operated Bert's Barber Shop in Biddeford, retiring in 2010. Bert cherished the relationships he made in the community and often spoke of them, right up until his passing.
Bert emphasized "That's my whole life, working", and he enjoyed it. He still found time to coach sports and was instrumental in organizing the West Biddeford Little League. He was an Army National Guard member for 9 years, officiated high school basketball games, was a volunteer baseball umpire and always found time to help friends and family with various home improvement projects.
Bert enjoyed spending time with family and friends at Shaker Pond and later at their little cottage in Old Orchard Beach. He also enjoyed attending or watching as many Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics, or Bruins Games as he could. He could be found at many Biddeford High School Football, Baseball and Hockey games supporting his grandsons. Bert enjoyed spending winters in Florida with family and friends playing dominoes until health issues forced him back to Maine. Many fond memories were made during his almost daily visits to Disney World. Later in life he picked up a new hobby, painting, which became his new passion. Bert's life is featured as part of The Voices of Biddeford Series. Here is the link:
