Calvin Ernest Johnson, 77, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 1, 2025, in Cape Elizabeth Maine.

He was born on May 16, 1947, in Portland to Calvin and Hazel Johnson and raised in Scarborough

In 1968 he married the love of his life, Rita, and was married for 53 years. He was humble and caring, devoted to his family, and was a big fan of sweets and Elvis Presley.

Calvin enjoyed hunting and fishing and clamming with his buddy Ray Binette. His favorite pastime was metal detecting which he did for hours on end, finding plenty of coins and lost rings but never hitting the mother lode. His favorite games were cribbage and penny poker which he was ready to play anywhere and anytime. He was also an accomplished cook, especially around the holidays when he would cook enough food for an army. His favorite dish was his famous spaghetti and meatballs.

Calvin was predeceased by his wife Rita, his parents, his brother Howard, and great granddaughters Ella and Grace.

Calvin is survived by his stepchildren Simone (David) Bell, Robert (Joan) Compagna, and Richard (Rachel) Compagna; as well as grandchildren Brandon(Jennifer), Susan(Frank), Jeffrey(Lauren) and

Paul(Sarah) and great grandchildren Brianna, Taylor, Patrick, Caleb, and Shannon.

He is also survived by his twin sister Carol, and his sister Bonnie (Michael) Masi.

A celebration of Calvin's life will be held at a later date.
