Carol Taggart

Carol Taggart passed away peacefully at Avita of Stroudwater in Westbrook, Maine on Saturday, October 26th, 2024.

Carol grew up in Vermont, she was the oldest of five children. She spent her early years in Starkboro, VT enjoying the outdoors with her family, helping around the home with her siblings. In her high school years, she went to live and work with the Adsit Family helping them with the antique business while attending Burlington High School in Burlington Vermont.

After graduating from Burlington High School, Carol attended the University of Vermont. Carol graduated from the University of Vermont with a degree in Elementary Education. Carol would later get a master's degree from the University of Vermont in Library Science. Carol worked at the Bristol elementary school for over 35 years before retiring in 2007. Carol had several different teaching roles, first grade, a combined third and fourth grade classroom, reading, and others. Carol also enjoyed her many roles with the teachers' union over the years. Carol is fondly remembered by her former students and fellow teachers.

In 1986, Carol married the love of her life, Jim Taggart. Together they built their dream home in Charlotte, VT. They spent many happy years together there. Carol was an avid gardener and took great joy in tending to her beautiful flower gardens on the property.

Throughout her life, Carol enjoyed kayaking, hiking, and cross-country skiing. Carol volunteered at All Souls Church in Shelburne, VT among her other philanthropic efforts.

Carol moved to Maine in August of 2023 when it was clear that she had dementia which quickly became Alzheimer's.

Carol was predeceased by her husband James (Jim) Taggart in 1996. Carol was predeceased by her parents, Robert Thompson in 2009, and Arlene (Blair) Thompson in 2012.

Carol is survived by her brother Robert Thompson Jr., and her sisters Nileen (Thompson) Farnsworth, Jeanette (Thompson) Adams, and Mary Thompson.

Carol is also survived by her son Jeff Pierce and his wife Melody Pierce of Saco, Maine. Carol was also very fond of her niece Kate Farnsworth who resides in New York state and her nephew Josh Adams of Lincoln, VT. Carol also enjoyed spending time with her stepdaughter Ann Taggart and her family in Portland, Oregon.
