Charles Frederick McCall, 85, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, Wednesday, July 29th, in Scarborough, Maine. Chuck was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on August 4th, 1940, the son of Julia M. (Kenefick) McCall and Charles E. McCall.

Raised in Dorchester, Chuck quickly developed a lifelong love of reading, history, learning, conversation, and travel. Chuck made friends everywhere he went.

Following his three years of military service, Chuck married his first wife, Barbara Ardini, and started a family. He graduated from Boston University and moved to Maynard, Massachusetts, where their family continued to grow. While in Maynard, he began a proud 21-year career as a history teacher at MCI-Concord where he assisted inmates in earning their GED's and college degrees.

In 1977, Chuck tragically lost his first wife Barbara in a car accident. Following the accident, with the loving support of family, he continued to successfully raise his four young children. In 1984 he married his second wife Virginia "Ginny" (Lister) McCall.

In 1991, Chuck and Ginny retired and began RV'ing full-time. Inspired by his love of history, the two of them would travel throughout the lower 48 states, Canada, and Mexico. After 21 years of travel, they settled in Ocean Park, Maine, where Chuck continued to enjoy the company of his family, friends, and history books.

Chuck was predeceased by his first wife Barbara McCall, his parents, and his younger brother John McCall.

He is survived by his wife Virginia McCall, his four children; Michael McCall and his wife Jacquoline, Kathleen (McCall) Johnson and her husband Patrick, Susan (McCall) Hu and her husband Daniel, and Stephen McCall and his wife Kara, his three stepchildren; Michael Smith and his wife Gail Miller, Lisa Smith, and James Lamb, his 13 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11am on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at Blue Point Congregational Church UCC, located at 236 Pine Point Rd, Scarborough. A Celebration of Life will follow at Oceanwood Camp and Conference Center, located at 17 Royal St, Ocean Park. Please wear bright colors and a smile on your face.
