Obituary

Claire R. Hussey

Biddeford

Claire R. Hussey, 85, of Biddeford, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at her family farm on Tuesday, July 4, 2023.

Claire was born in Biddeford on May 20, 1938, the second to the oldest daughter of Clement and Henriette (Palardis) Deschambault. Being the daughter of the Mayor of Biddeford, she enjoyed dressing up in gowns and attending all the local events such as dances and charity balls. The family owned a store in her early years, this fostered a love for sweet treats.

Claire met the love of her life on a date setup by friends in 1958. Claire and Arthur were married on March 15, 1962. In 1968, the couple purchased their homestead, their family farm in Biddeford where they raised four children.

Claire was from the generation of hard work. Once her children were grown, she went to work for the University of New England for many years. She also gave back to the community by volunteering for the Alfred Shelter serving meals to those in need.

Claire was a devoted wife and mother and was her happiest with her family. The family remembers fond memories of beans, her famous biscuits and many enjoyable Saturday nights. Holidays were special and decorating her home was always a priority. These memorable moments made will be held on to and cherished forever. She will be sadly missed.

She was predeceased by her husband Arthur on January 20, 2009 and by one sister Carmen Lally.

She is survived by four children, Donna L. Martel and partner Keith Davis, Dale Dow and husband Rodney, Donald Hussey and wife Trish and Peter Hussey and wife Tami.

She is also survived by six grandchildren, Matthew Martel and wife Jennifer, Benjamin Dow and wife Amber, Bethany Thayer and husband Merle, Ian Michaud and Victoria, Reegan Hussey and Cole Hussey and partner Davan, eight great grandchildren, Cali, Camden, Brooke, Noble, Ryder, Zeb, Lily and Hunter, two sisters Lucille Robinson and Violet Hussey and several nieces and nephews.
