Delmont R. Smith, 89, of Lyman, passed away at Southern Maine Healthcare in Biddeford.

He was born in Gardiner on June 19, 1934, a son of Donald E. and Muriel G. (French) Smith.

Earlier, Del was employed by Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. Later, he worked at various local hardware stores. Most recently, Del continued in hardware and other departments with Home Depot as he continued helping many people with their home project needs. He made many friends who were his customers as he enjoyed the social interaction and sense of helping others from his years of experience. He will be sadly missed by many.

He was an avid reader and collector of the Charles Dickens village collection. He spent weeks preparing for the Christmas holiday with his miniature house collection spread though out every room. He also liked going out to eat and watching old movies.

He was predeceased by his wife Isla (Farwell) Smith who passed on April 9, 2020.

He is survived by Stephen Carmichael and his wife Margaret, two grandchildren Jason West and Amy Barchey, one step grandson Stephen W. Carmichael and five great grandchildren.
