Dorothy R. LaMarre, 74, of Saco, passed away on Monday, September 13, 2021, at the Gorham House.
She was born in Fort Kent on February 16, 1947, a daughter of Leon D. and Rella (Chamberland) Ouellette. She graduated from Fort Kent High School and later the Westbrook College of Nursing.
In 1971, she married her husband Ralph in Daigle, Maine. They moved to Saco where they resided for the past 50 years.
Dorothy was employed by Maine Medical Center for 38 years. While at Maine Medical Center, she organized continuing education programs for night shift nurses and CNAs and founded the Maine chapter of the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses. Throughout her career, Dorothy also taught medication administration programs for SMVTI (now SMCC) and eventually branched out on her own to teach this program in long-term care facilities. Dorothy found teaching very rewarding. She dedicated a large part of her career to the future nursing workforce.
Her hobbies included gardening and going to craft fairs.
She was predeceased by her husband Ralph LaMarre on October 15, 2016, her brother Leroy Ouellette and grandson Hugo Panangadan.
She is survived by her two children Robert LaMarre and his wife Amy LaBrecque and Robyn Lamarre and her husband Arun Panangadan and by three grandchildren Sophia LaMarre, Oceanna LaMarre and Sunny Panangadan. She is also survived by her brother Mark Ouellette, sister Lorraine Cyr, and two nieces Sharon Breault and Renee Cyr, two nephews Scott Cyr and Ryan LaMarre, great nieces and great nephews.
Visiting Hours will be from 4-7PM Wednesday, September 15, 2021, at Cote Funeral Home, Saco. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1PM Thursday, September 16, 202, at St. Joseph's Church in Biddeford. She will be buried next to her husband in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Saco.
