Dorothy L. Rogers, 95, of Biddeford, Maine, passed away on September 26, surrounded by loved ones and the amazing staff at St. Andre's Healthcare.
Dorothy was born on August 11, 1931, in Portland, to Dorothy B. (Somers)Whitney and Walter R. Whitney. She graduated from South Portland High School in 1950.
She married Philip L. Rogers in 1951. In 1952, they began their family, raising six children.
Dot was proud of her years working at Maine Medical Center in Emergency Admitting and Southern Maine Medical as a Surgical secretary. Upon retiring she was a proud volunteer with Caring Unlimited.
Growing up, her children recall her dancing to American Bandstand, summers on the lawn with her friend Ruth, and trips to many lakes and the ocean which drew her in. She was happiest surrounded by her children. She was a wonderful listener who never judged but offered meaningful wisdom tinged with humor.
Dot was a sweet and sassy individual who welcomed all to the family fold. There were always extras at family gatherings for Christmas etc. She is loved by all who have had the pleasure of knowing her.
Dot was predeceased by her parents and her husband, Phil, in February of 2009.
She was predeceased by her best friend of 69 years, Jean Sirous, by two days. Dot’s family firmly believe that Jean was waiting at the ocean with an open picnic basket and bottle of wine that they enjoyed doing on a regular basis.
She is survived by her children: Philip Rogers and his son Philip of Austin TX, Dawn Rogers of Ocean Park and her son Jonathan, Debra Rogers of Old Orchard Beach and her children Tracey Morton and Kenneth Bergeron, Dorinda Rogers and her partner Rick Powers of Standish and her children Jim, Jaime and Luke Marcotte, Karen Green and her husband Peter of Biddeford and their children Nate, Sam and Tom and Kelly Corbeil her husband Bob of Lyman and their children Ryan, Justin, Jake and Karina. She is also survived by 14 great grandchildren who adored the ground she walked on.
The family would like to acknowledge the incredible staff at St. Andre's Healthcare and Affinity Hospice who made the journey so much easier for mom and her family.
Services will be private.
In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to Affinity Hospice at 1 Runway Road Suite #5, South Portland, ME 04106.
Arrangements are by Cote Funeral Home.
