Elizabeth H Audie

December 11, 1930 -- January 3, 2024

Elizabeth was born in Biddeford to Irving Weymouth Herrick and Florence Hodgkins Herrick. She grew up in Saco, graduating from Thornton Academy in 1948. Elizabeth married Fernand E Audie in 1950 and acclimated to family life in Maine with their three children. In 1964, she and her husband availed themselves of an opportunity to work overseas. And so began her extensive travels abroad, with such ports of call as Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore and Bangkok, settling in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia with her husband and children for more than three years.

Upon her return to Maine, a house was purchased which she would later retire back to in 1991. Elizabeth was a member of the United Baptist Church in Saco which, in the late 1960s, published a cookbook complete with a section on the history of Saco Bay which Elizabeth personally researched and wrote, spending many hours in the then York Institute.

Meanwhile, the nation's capital was calling, so off went Elizabeth and family to the Virginia suburbs in 1970. It was there that she landed a position at The Retired Officers Association, working her way up from secretary to Deputy Director of Personal Affairs, being the first non-military staff member allowed to attend board meetings, and very proud of that fact. After twenty years of service, Elizabeth retired from TROA, returning to her beloved Saco, Maine, reestablishing residence there with her husband. Elizabeth enjoyed hosting her children and grandchildren there throughout the years, savoring coastal drives and seafood. She was a great story teller and keeper of the family history and lore, regaling tales of old including growing up during the Great Depression as well as her travels abroad.

Elizabeth is predeceased by her grandson Garnet D Vanjani in 2002 and by her husband in 2009.

Surviving are her three children and eight grandchildren: Mark E Audie and son Spenser; Peter M Audie and sons Joseph, Robert and James and daughters Aleshia, Krystal and Katrina ; Gayle A Vanjani and son Joshua; as well as numerous great and great great grandchildren, nephews, nieces and cousins.
