Madore

Houlton
Elizabeth A. Madore
Elizabeth "Betty" Madore, 76, of Houlton and Van Buren, passed away after a short battle with cancer on May 10, 2024, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.
She was born in Old Town on September 6, 1947, a daughter of John and Bernadette (Desjardins) St. Peter. Betty graduated from Fort Kent High School and from the University of Maine at Fort Kent where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Education.
It was while she was a student at UMFK that Betty met her husband John, and the couple married on June 14, 1969. The couple made their home and raised their family in Van Buren.
A life-long educator, Betty taught in the Van Buren school system for nearly three decades before celebrating her retirement in 2005.
Betty found great joy in many things including the summers she spent at the beach with her husband John and her hobbies which included reading and crafting, gardening, and puzzles of many sorts. Few things delighted her however as much as the antics of her grandchildren. She loved to sit in the crowd at their sporting events, in the audience of their dance recitals, to watch games via the internet when she couldn't attend in person and to hear all about their academic achievements and accomplishments. She also especially enjoyed their different and unique personalities. She will be sadly missed by those she leaves behind.
She was predeceased by her husband John P. Madore Jr. in 2005 and by one sister Jean Kinney of Longmont, CO in 2016.
She is survived by her three children Candace Verreault and husband Jeff of Saco, Susan Minesinger and husband Chris of Los Angeles, CA and Peter J. Madore and wife Elissa of Orono. She is also survived by nine grandchildren Alan, Thomas, John, Tate, Dominic, Simon, Emmie, Camilla and Meredith, siblings Thomas St. Peter of Eagle Lake and Donna Geiger and husband James of W. Sayville, NY and several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00am on Monday, June 17, 2024, at St. Bruno-St. Remi Church, 174 Main St., Van Buren.
Private interment will take place in the Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery, Caribou, where Betty will be laid to rest next to her husband John.
