Obituary

Elsie Hill

Saco

Elsie J. Hill, 97, of Saco, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on the afternoon of Wednesday, March 25th, 2026, at Maine Health Medical Center in Biddeford.

Elsie was born at home in Kennebunk, on August 1st, 1928, a daughter to Charles Thibeau Sr. and Bernice (Brand) Thibeau. She was raised alongside her five siblings in Kennebunk and attended local schools.

After graduating, she started working in the shoe industry as an assembler. She was a dedicated employee and worked there until she retired. During her retirement, she took a part-time job at McDonalds where she flourished. She enjoyed interacting with her community and getting to know the regulars.

Elsie met and married Charles Hill Jr. and together they raised their daughter, Linda. Among their many cherished memories is the joy of flying model aircraft together near their home.

Elsie was a well-known homebody who never strayed far from Maine. She often spoke about how the farthest she'd ever traveled to was New York State; and that was more than enough for her. She much preferred staying home where she could relax with her jigsaw puzzles and crosswords. Often, her brother would come over for lunch and spend time reminiscing.

Elsie was a dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Those who snuck glances into her purse would find many photos of her family that she always wanted close to her. Her family, especially her niece Wendy, were the primary reason she was able to spend her remaining days in her home. She will truly be missed by all who knew her.

Elsie was predeceased by her husband: Charles Hill Jr., her daughter: Linda Smith, her brothers: Kenneth Thibeau, Charles "Buddy" Thibeau Jr., Richard "Dicky" Thibeau, and James "Jim" Thibeau, her sister: Margery Jennison, and her great-granddaughter: Casandra.

Elsie is survived by her grandsons: Kelsey Merrill and wife Nicole, and Jonathan Merrill and wife Deborah, her great-grandchildren: Ben, Hannah, Ashley, Jerry, and Adric, and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be private.
