Fred Byron Doliber, 76, of Arundel, passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2025, in Portland.

Fred was born on September 6, 1949, in Belfast. Son of Fred Raymond Doliber Jr. and Althea Minnie Doliber (Clark)

He grew up in Searsport and graduated from Searsport District HS in 1967. He enjoyed playing basketball, being a Boy Scout and learned that he liked theatre. He loved to share his proudest moment with us, when he was cast as a flower.

Fred attended Wentworth Institute from 1967 – 1969 and earned an Associate's Degree in Nuclear Engineering Technology. He then attended Lowell Tech Institute until 1971, furthering his education in Nuclear Engineering. He also earned a Bachelor's Degree in Social Welfare from the University of Maine Portland/Gorham in 1974 as Magna Cum Laude.

He worked as a Licensed Social Worker serving clients with major mental health and substance abuse.

In 1980 he went to work for the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard where he completed his apprenticeship with honors in Shipfitting. He was well known and respected by many of his peers. He was a member of the Metal Trades Union, holding several positions such as Secretary, Treasurer and Vice President. He took responsibility with pride, passion and fought hard for his fellow union members. As a union representative, he met with several national representatives in Washington, DC. He retired from the Shipyard in 1990.

In the late 70's, Fred worked part-time with the Guay's Service Station. He gravitated to the shop because his dad owned a service station and therefore grew up in the business. Fred managed the station at 5 points for a while until the State took the property to build the new 5-point intersection in Biddeford. Upon retiring from PNSY, he went back to work with the Guay Family's business. Fred took over the bookkeeping for the last 25-30 years and did it skillfully until his recent illness.

After spending their first 7 years together, Fred and Carmen A. Marchand were married in Saco, ME on October 17, 1987. During their beautiful 45 years together, he enjoyed spending time with his family, sports, bird watching, canoeing and teaching his 5 granddaughters how to drive. He also loved traveling to new destinations with many of his friends. He enjoyed frequent trips to Florida. His most memorable trip was to Italy.

Fred was predeceased by his parents, Althea Doliber in 2019 and Fred Doliber Jr in 2020

He is survived by his wife, Carmen Doliber of Arundel, a sister Karen Doliber of Saco, and a daughter Rachel Doliber. Bonus children are Michael Poisson & his wife Lorre of Buxton, Diane Handlen of Biddeford, Christine Aldrich & her husband Daniel of Biddeford as well as several grandchildren, Jessica & (John) Madore, Nicole & partner Daniel R, Ayla Aldrich & her partner David B, Bree Aldrich, Nire Aldrich, Felicia Lawrence and great grandchildren, Joseph, Kelsey and Nicholas Wildes.

Visiting Hours will take place from 11AM-12:30PM on Saturday, October 18th, with a Funeral Service to follow at 12:30PM at Cote Funeral Home Chapel, Saco. A burial will take place following the funeral service at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Saco.
