George M. Caras

George M. Caras, 71, of Lowell, Massachusetts, passed away unexpectedly after a short illness on Monday, November 18, 2024, at Lowell General Hospital.

He was born in Biddeford, ME, on May 24, 1953, a son of Michael and Georgia (Moskovis) Caras.

George graduated from Thornton Academy, class of 1971. He went on to the University of Maine at Orono majoring in Mathematics. He continued his education at SUNY in Albany, New York, with a Masters Degree in Atmospheric Science.

George had an interest in the weather from an early age. This passion started his career as a meteorologist. He was employed by Weather Services Corporation in Bedford, Massachusetts for 20 years. He established Commanders' Weather in Nashua, New Hampshire in the late 1990s. His company specializes in weather support for sailing and cruising yachts worldwide. He retired in 2019.

George married the love of his life Deborah Bean on June 6, 1976. They met as teenagers and have been together ever since. The couple raised their family in Lowell, Massachusetts where they resided.

With a background in mathematics, George followed the stock market's ups and downs closely. Of course he continued to follow the weather and also had interests in college and professional football and a good craft beer. Many special memories were made whether it was traveling with his wife to their favorite destinations, special occasions or holidays with the family. He will be sadly missed.

He is survived by his wife Deborah Caras, daughter Stephanie Carlson and husband Justin, and son Matthew Caras and wife Alison. He is also survived by his four loving grandchildren Ben, Alex, Haley and Tommy.
