Obituary

George Sipilief, 69, of Perryville, Maryland, and formerly of Rockland County, New York, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2026, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, Maine.

George was born in Istanbul, Turkey, on May 1, 1957, one of two sons of Todori and Irini (Napoli) Sipilief. He spent his early childhood in Turkey before his family relocated to Rockland County, New York, at an early age. Growing up, George and his brother worked alongside their father in his tailoring shop and dry-cleaning operation. George later established his own dry-cleaning and tailoring business, where his strong work ethic, passion, and dedication were hallmarks of his career.

In 1989, George married Annemarie McCloskey, and together they raised their family in NY, the place he had long called home. Although their marriage eventually came to an end, they maintained a peaceful relationship, particularly in their later years.

George worked hard and pursued his endeavors with passion, but he also knew how to enjoy life. He was an avid water-skier who loved boating and deep-sea fishing. He especially enjoyed vacationing with his family and making memories together. A particularly meaningful trip was to Athens, Greece, where he and his family explored the land of their heritage and connected with their Greek roots. George loved a good time and took pleasure in making sure those around him were having one, too.

Later in life, George moved to Maryland, where he reconnected with extended family on his mother's side. He treasured the time spent with his cousins Frances and Niko, Niko's wife, Claudia, and their children, sharing many memorable moments together.

George will be deeply missed by his family and by the many people whose lives he touched throughout the years.

He was predeceased by his parents, Todori and Irini Sipilief, and his brother, Ivan Sipilief.

George is survived by his two sons, Alexander Sipilief and his husband, Darren Smith, and Jason Rahlan and his husband, Patrick Oakford; and his granddaughter, Teresa, affectionately known by the family as “Tess.”
