Gerard U. Blais, 77, of Hollis, passed away on March 31, 2026 at MaineHealth Maine Medical Center - Biddeford. He was born in Saco on May 15, 1948, a son of Josephat and Rita (Cote) Blais.

Gerard grew up in Saco, and was educated at Notre Dame School.  Being the oldest of nine, Gerard took on the role of supporting his mom and siblings when his father suddenly passed away.  As a young man he had a passion for fixing anything mechanical, from small engines to motorcycles and cars.  This evolved into a career as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic.

In 1987 Gerard married his beloved wife, Helen Stults, and the couple settled in Old Orchard Beach where he took on the role of caring for, and mentoring Helen's four children.  In 1995 Gerard and Helen relocated to Hollis, where they continued to live to present day.  In his later years, Gerard's line of work transitioned to driving tractor trailers.

Being a self-taught man from such a young age, Gerard developed a broad array of skills, which he regularly put to good use.  He found great joy working on and around his house.  There was nothing he couldn't do, fixing furnaces, garage doors, lawnmowers, and the list goes on and on. He found fulfillment in putting in an honest day's work.

Most of all he loved helping others in need. Day or night, rain or shine, whenever anyone called, he would be there to help them.  He will be dearly missed by many.

He is predeceased by his parents, by his brother Roger Blais, by his brother Andre Blais, and by his sister Jeanne Blais.

Gerard is survived by his loving wife, Helen Blais; by his daughter, Heidi; by his four step-children, Daniel Rich, William Rich, Kimberly McLaughlin, and Diane Mitts; by his three adopted children, Robert, Kimberly and Karin; by eight grandchildren; by one great-grandson; by two brothers, Edward Blais, and Francois Blais; by three sisters, Denise Foster, Marie Thivierge, and Bernadette Spulick; as well as by several nieces and nephews.

Services will take place later this spring.
