Guy E. Poirier, 77, of Saco, passed away on November 30, 2024 with his loving wife by his side, at AdventHealth Waterman Hospital in Tavares, Florida.

Guy was born in Biddeford, Maine on July 24, 1947, son of Paul O. and Frances R. (Millette) Poirier. He received his elementary education from Notre Dame School, and graduated from Thornton Academy, class of 1966.  He then joined the United States Air Force and faithfully served his country until his honorable discharge in 1970.

It was during his high school years that Guy first met the love of his life, Dianna Galipeau. Their courtship continued through Guy's time in the military, and upon his honorable discharge, the couple married on July 21, 1970.  That same year Guy went to work for his brother Paul, moving houses and maintaining the equipment. For over 30 years he worked as a specialist throughout all of Southern Maine physically relocating entire homes and large structures from one location to another. He later went to work for Dayton Sand and Gravel, remaining there for 18 years until his retirement in 2016.

Guy was brilliant with anything mechanical.  He had a sharp, technical mind, with the rare ability to understand the workings of objects by just looking at them.  He learned machining skills from his father, and taught himself AutoCAD when it first came out back in the 1980's.  Using this knowledge Guy made drawings of his numerous ideas, which he later used to design and fabricate whole trucks, rigging tools and truck attachments with spare parts, all with the goal of bettering the business.

Guy had interests that were wide-spread, but the majority of them usually had something to do with gadgets.  He had a passion for the latest tool, electronic device or contraption, anything that could spark his imagination. He owned one of the very first bulky camcorders, and not only used it for home videos, but also brought it with him down the Attitash Alpine Slides so that he could capture his entire descent on film.  He designed a mobile kitchen in his concrete mixer so that he could enjoy warm food for his lunch breaks. He enjoyed assembling model trains, flying remote control airplanes, and more recently, operating remote control drones.  He was also an expert at the video game "Flight Simulator".

For eight years in a row Guy and Dianna had the good fortune of spending their winters together in Florida.

Guy made friends wherever he went.  He had a very humorous personality, and he loved to make people laugh.  Being quite a jokester he often looked for opportunities to catch people off guard with an unexpected comment.

He had a special place in his heart for children, and even kids that were normally shy would naturally gravitate to him.  He loved animals, especially his 8Lbs dog Jack who was his constant companion. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.  He will be sadly missed by many.

Guy is survived by his loving wife, Dianna Poirier of 54 years; by his daughter Cheryl Achilles and husband Rob; by his son Matthew and wife Adrienne Noble-Poirier; and by his five grandchildren: Hannah Achilles, Natalie Achilles, Porter Noble, Greyson Noble, and Brooke Poirier.  He is also survived by his six siblings: Paul Poirier, Marc Poirier and wife Peggy, Suzanne Thibeault, Peter Poirier, Denise Leclerc-Lachance and husband Tom, and Gisele Poirier; as well as by several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 12PM – 1PM, with a Funeral Service at 1:00PM on Friday, December 13, 2024, at Cote Funeral Home Chapel, Saco. Burial will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Saco.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish to remember Guy in a special way may make gifts in his memory to an organization of their choice.
