James L. Violette

James L. Violette, 79, of Biddeford, passed away Thursday evening, December 26, 2024, at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

He was born in Old Town, Maine on August 18, 1945, a son of Leon and Bunny Violette.  James grew up in Old Town, but later relocated to Portland at the age of 18.

James worked at Maine Medical Center in Portland as a dishwasher, and provided essential support to the rest of the kitchen staff.  It was during this time that he met Sandra Bartlett, and the young couple married on Oct 14, 1988.  They settled in Portland and raised their daughter, Ami.  Their marriage later ended in divorce, yet they remained friends and co-parented Ami together.

James was known by many as an incredible cook, especially when it came to his Turkey Stew and his homemade chili.  He was a talented oil painter, with a reproduction of "The Last Supper" as one of his family's favorites.  He found joy in making jigsaw puzzles, and recently even took up knitting.  For entertainment he enjoyed watching cooking shows, old John Wayne westerns, horror movies, and the Jumanji movie series. Near the top of his list was wrestling and the Friday night pizza parties with Ami, where the two would watch WWE.

James also had a love for animals.  He adored his dog "Daisy" which he co-owned with his daughter Ami, and loved his cat which he affectionately called "Herself".  Both of these pets have long since passed away, but his family finds peace in knowing that he is now reunited with his beloved dog and cat.

James is survived by his daughter Ami Violette and husband Drew Little; by his step son Christopher Bartlett; by his two brothers, Johnny Violette and wife Betty, and George Violette and wife Evelyn; by his two sisters, Betty Cote, and Linda Dalrymtle; as well as by several nieces and nephews.

There will be a private celebration of life, with his immediate family. There will be a plaque at Brooklawn Memorial Park in Portland, for those who wish to pay respects.
