Jan Holmes Martin

Jan Holmes Martin, 87, died on September 14. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clement Ross Holmes and Myrtis Amanda Robinson of Newton Mississippi.

A native of Newton, Jan lived in Alabama, New York, Connecticut, Florida, and Maryland

throughout her life. She was a graduate of Newton High School where she participated in many activities including being the school's drum majorette.

She attended the University of Mississippi, where she pledged Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, and majored in English Literature. After graduation she married Hal Norman and the two settled in Mobile, Alabama where their first daughter was born. They later moved to Vicksburg, Mississippi where their second daughter was born. After moving to upstate New York and then Connecticut, Jan met her second husband, Raymond Martin. Jan played clarinet for many years in the Westport Community Band. She also had a successful career in public relations, and even founded her own agency, Publicity Services.

Survivors include her husband Ray (Grasonville, Maryland), her daughters Ann Sullivan

(Boothbay, Maine) and Laura Norman (San Francisco, CA), three step children, twelve

grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held in Newton in the spring. Memorials may be made to the

University of Mississippi Foundation.
