Obituary

Jane C. Duhamel

Old Orchard Beach

Jane C. Duhamel, 76, of Old Orchard Beach, passed away Wednesday evening on April 8, 2026 at home.

She was born in Portland on June 21, 1949, a daughter of Alec and Marion (Hardman) Duhamel.

Jane graduated from the University of Maine at Orono with a Bachelor's Degree in Education.

Jane was employed as a 3rd grade school teacher for the Town of Old Orchard Beach for 32 years. She helped countless students with their education throughout her career. She made many relationships with parents and students that she cherished throughout the years.

Jane also worked many summers as a waitress for the Bell Buoy where she made many friends including her two best friends Beverly and Christine. Not one to sit still, Jane helped her son Peter at Dewey's in Old Orchard Beach, where she created the best handmade clam cakes, and had the idea to do deep fried Oreos which put Dewey's on the map.

Jane was a big time animal lover. She had dogs and cats her entire adult life. At one point she had a pair of birds and even a rabbit that she let run around the house.

Her favorite past time was playing cards and weekend Foxwood trips with her friends and sister Susan. She loved the time spent with family and friends and especially her granddaughter Haylie. She will be sadly missed.

She was predeceased by her grandson Nathan Duhamel, and her brother Richard "Duey" Duhamel.

She is survived by her son Peter Duhamel, granddaughter Haylie Jane Duhamel and siblings Susan Kimball, Donna Kurlanska and husband Eduard, nieces and nephews.
