Joan "Jo" Morrison

Biddeford

Joan D. Morrison "Jo", of Biddeford,  passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at home, joining the love of her life in heaven, Joseph L Morrison.

She was the youngest of eight children, born in Biddeford on August 19, 1936, a daughter of Jean Baptiste and Evelyn (Corriveau) Danis.

In her early years, Joan lived in New York, worked at Cornell University book store and lived in the states of Georgia and Tennessee before settling in the Saco and Biddeford area.  Joan was from the generation of sacrifice and hard work and was employed by Biddeford Textile for 30 years.

Joan was a passionate Bingo player for 70 years. She would play six days a week and was well known throughout the bingo halls in Maine and Southern New Hampshire. She would easily play 48 cards covered with her many eclectic lucky charms. Her lucky number known to all was B12! She also was an avid bowler and won the senior Maine Bowling Championship with her best friend Rose Dow. The two were best of friends. Joan was always willing to help her family or others in the community. She would retell stories of knitting mittens and hats, baking cookies or making her famous caramel popcorn for anyone with a sweet tooth or in need of some clothing. She also taught the neighborhood children how to play marbles and other fun games.

Joan was known for being incredibly feisty, having an infectious laugh, beautiful smile and an amazing sense of humor and quick wit. She was the strongest most brave and loving woman and we are blessed to have shared our lives with. "Your story is the greatest legacy that you will leave to your loved ones. It will be etched into the minds of others and the stories they share about you will live on." These beautiful traits mean more to us now and they will be held on to and cherished forever. She will be sadly missed.

She was predeceased by her grandsons Kyle John Chase and bonus grandson Joshua James Blow as well as seven siblings Rachel Chenard, Louise Barker, Rudolphe Danis, Roger Danis, Normand Danis, Lucille Lapointe and Claire Prescott.

Joan is survived by her family whom she loved fiercely, her children, John Chase of Biddeford, daughter  Joyce Chase of Saco, Christopher Jay Chase of OOB, Gene Chase of Biddeford and long-awaited daughter 15 years later Helen Morrison Blow of OOB and step children with whom she had a special relationship, Theresa Morrison Stradley(Kevin), Susan Damon and children and James Morrison. Her life was also blessed with grandchildren and bonus grandchildren that filled her days with love, Keegan and Katelynn Chase, Braeden James Morrison Blow, Kamden Joseph Morrison Blow, Zachary Blow, Preston Blow, Jordan Blow, Melissa Closson, Chris Closson, Elizabeth Busby and Joshua Busby. Joan also had a beautiful great granddaughter Kyleigh Rayne Chase and so many very special nieces and nephews.

A Graveside Service will be held at the family lot, by the river, in Laurel Hill Cemetery when the Daffodils are in bloom. Arrangements are by Cote Funeral Home, Saco.
