Joane A. Goodrow

Joane A. Goodrow (Ouellette), age 92, of Inverness, FL and formerly of Saco; peacefully passed away on Thursday, May 4th at Vitas Hospice in Lacanto, FL. She was born in Caribou, ME; the oldest child of Armand L. Ouellette and Emily (Lizotte) Ouellette.  The family moved to Saco during her childhood.  She completed her high school education at Thornton Academy; graduating with the class of 1948.

Joane was an administrative assistant and office manager throughout her career.

On November 22, 1985 she married the love of her life, Alfred "Jake" Barlow.  Joane and Jake loved to travel and enjoyed ball room dancing. Their married life began in New Hampshire. They purchased a house on the Jenkins Rd. in Saco several years later.  They remained there until Jake's passing on February 5, 1991 due to a prolonged illness.

At that time, Joane retired and became her mother's care giver until 1993.  During this period, she met Eugene "Gene" Goodrow.  They were married on July 8, 1994.  In the summer of 1996, Joane and Gene moved to Inverness, Florida where they built their home in Celinas Hills.  They lived 26 happy years together until Gene's passing on May 24, 2022.

Joane insisted on staying in her home in Florida; refusing to return to Maine.  With help of home aids, she was able to do so for the next 11 months until complications from a fall mandated her move to a rehabilitation center.  Unfortunately, she was unable to recuperate from the fall and peacefully passed away on May 4, 2023.

Joane was predeceased by her parents, Armand and Emily; brothers Joel and Daniel; and her husbands Jake and Gene.

She is survived by her sister-in-law Suzanne Ouellette (Daniel); nieces Nicole Caron (Andre), Pauline Ouellette (Christina); nephew Jerry Ouellette (Joyce) and great-nieces Emily Caron and Morgan Ouellette.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1PM Friday, June 9, 2023 at St. Margaret's Church in Old Orchard Beach. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Biddeford.

The family would like to thank Joane's Home Instead attendants who kept her comfortable and made the last year manageable for her to remain in her home.
