John R.
Lamothe
Mar 13, 1935 — Nov 23, 2024
John R. Lamothe
John Robert Lamothe, 89, of Biddeford, passed away on the evening of Saturday, November 23, 2024, at The Maine Veterans' Home in Scarborough.
John was born in Biddeford on March 13, 1935, a son of Adrien and Rose (Ste Marie) Lamothe. He grew up in Biddeford and graduated from St. Louis High School. John married the love of his life, Dorothy Dubois, on September 3, 1956 and the couple settled in Biddeford. Within a couple years John enlisted in the United States Navy and faithfully served our country until his honorable discharge in 1959. He had the good fortune of being raised bilingual, so during this time the Navy appointed him to a position in administration on a ship which he thoroughly enjoyed.
After working in various positions, John began his extensive career with New England Oxygen, an industrial gas company serving a wide variety of industries from metal fabrication to beverage and medical. There, John felt that he found his calling, and after a few years he became part of their management team. He retired in 1993. Not being one to sit still during his retirement, John picked up a lower stress retirement job and also enjoyed being a member at the Saco Yacht Club.
In his early retirement years John and Dorothy enjoyed traveling the United States, often visiting one of the many National Parks throughout the country. He took great pride in his home and his yard, and regularly could be found doing yard projects. He was also an avid fisherman, and a skilled woodworker. Of the many items he crafted and built, the most noteworthy were the elaborate birdhouses that he made, many of which were given to family members and will be cherished for many years to come.
Most of all, he loved his family and the time they spent together. He will be sadly missed by many.
John was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy Lamothe on August 7, 2021; by his brother Paul Lamothe, and by one grandchild, Thisbe.
John is survived by his four children, Donna Lamberth, Denise Garner, Marco Lamothe and wife Carrie, and Peter Lamothe and wife Mica; by his four grandchildren, Andrew and wife Lydia, Erin and husband John, Galen, and Andrea; and by his three great-grandchildren, Darby, Fiona, and Margot. He is also survived by brother-in-law Robert Miller, sister-in-law Claire Miller, and sister-in-law Alta Lamothe; as well as by many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will take place on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at Cote Funeral Home, Saco. Family will begin greeting guests at 11:30am; Military Funeral Honors will start at 11:45am, with Funeral Service to follow immediately after.
