Obituary

Kathryn R. Rondeau

Kathryn R. Rondeau, 67, of Old Orchard Beach, passed away at home with her loving family by her side on the morning of Sunday, September 1, 2024.

She was born in Biddeford on March 25, 1957, a daughter of Altoona, Pennsylvania native Glenn Baker Jr. and Madeleine (Janelle) Baker. Kathryn was raised in Saco, and spent her summers at their family camp on Swan Pond in Lyman.  As a young girl she enjoyed dance, baton, and going to Horseback Camp.  She graduated from Thornton Academy, class of 1975.

It was during her high school years that Kathryn met the love of her life, Marc Rondeau.  They were married on June 29, 1974 at Most Holy Trinity Church in Saco.  The young couple settled in Saco where they raised their two wonderful children, Mindy and Darrell.  Kathryn was a caring mother who did everything she could to support her children both academically, as well as with their extracurricular activities.  She spent time as a pee-wee football mom and trainer, and she also volunteered as a cheering mom helping the coaches with organizing practices, competitions and fundraisers.

As a young woman Kathryn worked at various local jobs. A couple of her more noteworthy positions were her years at Shaw's Supermarket as a front-end manager, and her twenty-plus years working for Dr. Mark Britten as his Oral Surgery Assistant.  Prior to retirement, Kathryn also worked as a supervisor with the University of New England's Dental School, a position that ended rather abruptly with the onset of the COVID 19 pandemic.  Kathryn touched many lives during her working career, and made many lasting friendships, both with the people she served, as well as with her colleagues.

Kathryn had an amazing thirst for adventure and travel.  She owned a Harley which she enjoyed taking for daytrips, riding alongside Marc.  She had a passion for skiing and spent many years working Ski Patrol at Shawnee Peak.  Kathryn visited many Maine Rivers where she loved the thrill of whitewater kayaking.  She also enjoyed a few more relaxing activities like working in her beautiful flower gardens, and visiting various antique shops where she bought and sold her treasures that carried so much history.

Kathryn had a love for life and for people.  She brought a smile to everyone's face when she walked in the room.  Her positivity, warmth and spontaneity made others naturally gravitate to her.  She will be dearly missed by many.

She was predeceased by her parents, Glenn and Madeleine Baker.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Marc Rondeau; by her two children, Mindy Lavigne and husband Eric, and Darrell Rondeau and wife Suzanne; by her four grandchildren, Evan Riley, Bryce Lavigne, Alexis Lavigne and Samuel Rondeau; by several loved ones from Marc's family; as well as by several life-long friends including her longest, closest, and most beloved friend, Bonnie Weiler.

A celebration of life will take place during the summer of 2025.
