Larry E. Hanson

Larry E. Hanson, 91, of South Portland, Maine, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2025.

Born on August 4, 1934, in Biddeford, Maine, Larry spent his early years in North Saco before moving to Biddeford, which became his lifelong home. He attended Biddeford High School, where he served as class president all four years. While there, he founded and served as President of the school's first photography club—beginning a lifelong passion for capturing life through a camera lens. It was during these years that he met his soon-to-be wife, Charlotte Machado, beginning a partnership that would last a lifetime.

After proudly serving his country in the United States Air Force, Larry began a long and dedicated career with Maine National Bank in Biddeford. Through his work at the bank and his long-time membership in the Biddeford/Saco Rotary Club, Larry became a well-known and respected pillar of the Biddeford business community.

Larry married the love of his life, Charlotte P. Hanson (née Machado), and together they built a family rooted in love, devotion, and faith. His love for Charlotte and the rest of his family was always clear. Though not often verbal with his affection, he expressed it daily through his eyes and his actions.

Larry is predeceased by his parents, Albert Hanson and Hazel White; and by his siblings, Albert Hanson, Rita Ouellette, and Florence Albert.

Larry is survived by his beloved wife, Charlotte; his children: Jacqueline Campbell and her husband Mike; Robert Hanson; Carolyn Wright and her husband John; William Hanson and his wife Denise; and Peter Hanson and his wife Galina. "Grampy," as he was lovingly known, was the proud father of five and the devoted grandfather of nine wonderful grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, who brought him endless pride and joy. Larry also kept his wry sense of humor until his last day, always finding joy in joking with his children and grandchildren.

Beyond his professional life, Larry enjoyed collecting, history, working with numbers, and especially photography. He will be remembered for his quiet strength, devotion to family, and the way he inspired others through both his work and his passions.

Family and friends are invited for Visiting Hours from 11AM – 1PM, with a Funeral Service at 1PM on Friday, September 19, 2025, at Cote Funeral Home Chapel, Saco.  Burial will take place in St. Mary Cemetery, Biddeford.  A Luncheon and Celebration of Life will follow at Sable Lodge Retirement Community, 74 Running Hill Rd, South Portland.
