Larry L.
Holmquist
Aug 3, 1948 — Mar 17, 2022
Saco
Larry L. Holmquist, devoted husband and father of two children, died on March 17, 2022 at the age of 73.
He was born in Caribou, Maine on August 3, 1948, to Linwood and Geneva Holmquist. He grew up in Westmanland and New Sweden. He graduated from Caribou High School in 1966 and served in the Maine Army National Guard for six years.
He met Rachel Lavoie in 1967. The two wed on May 21, 1971 and were married for more than 50 years. They raised their two children in Caribou, where they lived for 34 years. He enjoyed the outdoors, visiting Madawaska Lake, and spending time with family and friends. He held several jobs in the construction and transportation industries and even owned his own construction business for several years.
In 2004, he and his wife moved to Saco to be closer to their children and grandchildren. He took pride in being called "Grampy" and loved watching his grandchildren dance and play sports. He lovingly teased them and always put a smile on their faces.
He was a lifelong resident of Maine and whenever he met someone, he made sure to tell them that. He could strike up a conversation with anyone and because of his charm and humor, those conversations were welcomed. When he wasn't working, he read the paper, watched the news, and begrudgingly completed honey do lists from his wife.
He was predeceased by his parents, Linwood and Geneva Holmquist, sister, Coleen Lajoie, and brother-in-law, Keith Roble. He is survived by his wife, Rachel Holmquist of Saco, two children, Mark Holmquist and wife Devra of Waterboro and Melanie Weiss and husband David of Newtown, Connecticut, and four grandchildren, Andrew and Audrey Holmquist and Gabriela and Dylan Weiss. He is also survived by his siblings, Judy Holmquist, Nancy Holmquist Roble and Kris Holmquist.
Visitation will be from 10:00 - 11:00 AM on March 22, 2022, followed by a funeral service at Cote Funeral Home in Saco, with Rev. Dr. Burton S. Howe officiating.
There will be a memorial service at New Sweden Covenant Church later this year.
