Lionel J. Bernier Sr.

Lionel J. Bernier Sr., 95, of Saco, passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.

He was born in Augusta on February 21, 1928, a son of Rudolph and Marie (Chenard) Bernier. He was educated from Augusta schools.

Lionel was employed in the construction industry for over 60 years. He worked as a heavy equipment operator and rose to foreman, retiring in 2008. During retirement, Lionel continued to work, especially for Wardwell.  Commonly known as "Pete", he would often volunteer for many of the maintenance duties.

Lionel was on the Saco Fire Department Call Force from 1962-1976.

He had many interesting hobbies. He enjoyed cooking for his wife Constance, following the Dallas Cowboys football team and playing solitaire and cribbage. When time permitted, Lionel spent time outdoors hunting for deer and occasionally bear.

He was predeceased by his wife Constance (Veilleux) Bernier in 2020, son Paul Bernier in 1989, son Lionel (Lucky) Bernier Jr. in 2016, daughter Rita Ann Boucher in 2022 and by his beloved grandson Jason Marcoux in 2022. He is also predeceased by five siblings Paul, Robert, Louis, Cecile and Doris.

He is survived by seven grandchildren David Bernier and partner Linsay, Stacey Bernier, Laura Bernier, Dan Bernier, John Bernier, Louanne Robinson and Brian Boucher, sister Claire Bedard, nieces and nephews and great grandchildren.
