Obituary

Lloyd A. Stetson

Saco

Lloyd A. Stetson, 77, of Saco, a proud Veteran of the United States Marine Corps, passed away peacefully at home on April 15, 2023.

The son of Herman and Dorothy (Bishop) Stetson, Lloyd was born in Biddeford and grew up in Saco, Maine attending all local Saco schools including Sweetser Grammar School, C.K. Burns Junior High, and Thornton Academy, graduating in 1964.

Lloyd enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps shortly after graduating from Thornton and served two tours in Vietnam, one as a flight mechanic working on the F-4 Phantom fighter jet with Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 542 in Chu Lai. He was honorably discharged in 1968 reaching the rank of Sergeant.

After returning from Vietnam, Lloyd worked and attended college on the GI Bill ultimately earning his bachelor's degree in business administration from Lowell Technical Institute. He returned to Maine and started Stetson Homes in 1976. Self-employed as a contractor for his entire career, Lloyd built many homes in Saco and the surrounding towns.

He was a natural athlete playing baseball with Saco Little League, football, and track while at Thornton Academy, and later a men's softball league in Saco. In his forties Lloyd became an avid golfer spending many Sundays on the course with his buddies at Biddeford-Saco Country Club.

Lloyd was immensely proud of his children and grandchildren, and thoroughly enjoyed watching them play the sports they loved. He loved rooting for his favorite teams, especially the New England Patriots. Lloyd and Debbie traveled to NASCAR races from New Hampshire to Daytona. As much as he enjoyed the races, his favorite part was always the flyover. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He will be sadly missed.

Lloyd was predeceased by both of his parents.

He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years Debra (Bolduc) Stetson, daughter Jill Boissonneault and partner Gary, son Shawn Stetson and wife Melanie, daughter Allison Forrest, and son Brian Stetson and wife Erinn. He was a very proud Papa to his grandchildren Owen, Emma, Arianna, Sophie, Lucy, Lyla, Emily, and Abigail. Lloyd adored his beloved dog Bella and she adored him. He is also survived by his brother Richard Stetson and wife Sharon, and his sister Beverly Baizley and husband Donald as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family. Lloyd will be deeply missed by his best friends Billy Skea and Keo Deshaies.
