Lorraine Olivia
Audie
Jul 29, 1934 — Jan 17, 2022
Old Orchard Beach
Lorraine O. Audie
Lorraine Olivia Audie, 87, of Barefoot Bay Florida and Old Orchard Beach Maine, passed away on January 17th in Scarborough Maine.
Lorraine was born at Webber Hospital, Biddeford Maine to Charles Everett (Red) Leger and Olivia Margaret (Kenney) Leger on July 29 th 1934. Lorraine was a graduate of Old Orchard Beach High School, class of 1952. She married John Paul Audie on February 9 th 1957 at St Margaret's Church in Old Orchard Beach.
Lorraine lived in many communities over the years, having children and caring for them as her husband was promoted at the company he worked. She seamlessly established households in Maine, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, New York and Florida. Spurred on from her desire to care for her children, Lorraine became an EMT in New Martinsville WVA. As part of the New Martinsville Ambulance Squad, she saved a man's life. This was one of many souls she touched throughout her time with us. Lorraine was a stay at home mother, raising seven children. She was a large presence in her children's lives, through her involvement in the PTA in every community she was a part of, Girl Scouts as a Troop Leader, the Cub Scouts as a Den Mother, and attending many softball, basketball and football games. Eventually she was able to come home to Maine, the state she loved and had always planned to return.
Lorraine was employed at Liberty Mutual in Boston MA, Portland ME and Providence RI. When her children were grown, she worked at the family Ben Franklin stores in Highland Falls NY and Pittsfield ME. She became a Claims Supervisor at Warnaco in Waterville ME, and was promoted to the headquarters in Milford CT.
When she retired, she became a snowbird, splitting time between a camper in Old Orchard Beach and a house in Barefoot Bay, Florida. While in Florida, she was Treasurer of the Barefoot Bay Computer Club and active in the New England Club, Ladies Poker Club and the Loyal Order of the Moose. Lorraine enjoyed bingo, knitting, needlepoint, playing poker and other card and board games with family and friends and going on cruises. She also mastered the art of completing puzzles, which she attempted to pass along to her children. One of her lifelong loves was the beach at Old Orchard, which she shared with her children and extended family over the years. Pier Fries, clam cakes and gathering for ever larger family group photos over time created their own traditions.
Lorraine is preceded in death by her parents, Charles Everett (Red) Leger and Olivia Margaret (Kenney) Leger, her sister Irene Frances Leger and half sister Elaine Elva Roux, and her grandson Ryan Alexander Audie.
Lorraine is survived by her husband John Paul Audie, 86, of Scarborough Maine, and her children: Brian (Sara) Audie, Jean-Marie (Glenn) Whitehouse, Susan (Bill) Coffey, Kathleen (Mark) Jordan. Michele (Mark) Kellis, Kevin (Melanie) Audie and Michael (Michelle) Audie. Her sixteen grandchildren: Christopher and Brandon Audie, Stephanie Farber, Sara Thompson and Jeffrey Farber, Nicole Donaldson, William Coffey III and Kaitlyn Coffey, Matthew Sinclair and Allison Sinclair, Rebekah Kellis and Hannah Kellis, Christopher Audie and Lucas Audie, Devon Audie. As well as her eleven great grandchildren: Theodore Audie, Joelle Audie and Brooks Audie, Ryan Farber, Levi Thompson and Amelia Thompson, Benjamin Donaldson, Juliet Donaldson and Jack Donaldson, Anastasia Audie.
Lorraine will be mourned by many. She was loved beyond words by her family, and will be missed beyond measure.
