Lorraine G. Dumais
Saco
Lorraine G. Dumais, 96, of Saco, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning , February 26, 2023, at The Wardwell Assisted Living Facility in Saco.
Lorraine was born in Augusta, Maine on January 26, 1927, a daughter of Joseph and Laura (Dostie) Ouellette. Lorraine was educated in the Augusta school system.
Lorraine married her beloved husband, Frank Dumais, on March 30, 1948 in Cambridge, MA where he was stationed with the United States Navy.
The young couple settled in Augusta where they raised their two wonderful children, Frank Jr., and Suzanne. In 1956 the family moved to Winthrop, MA where they remained for 37 years. During this time Lorraine devoted herself to raising and caring for her children. Later in life she decided to work outside the home as a secretary for CW Fifield Company (currently known as Fifield Fabrics Company). The position was obtained for her by her best friend Edith Countaway.
Lorraine was a fantastic cook, but also loved dining out with her husband. Her family often surprised her with Dine-Around discount cards so that she and Frank could enjoy a variety of area restaurants. In Winthrop they were members the Cottage Park Yacht Club, a social club where they could gather with friends for a cocktail and some laughs. In 1993 Lorraine and Frank moved to Saco, Maine where they enjoyed their retirement years.
She was predeceased by her husband Francis "Frank" Dumais Sr., her daughter Suzanne Dumais, three brothers: Ronald Ouellette, Benedict Ouellette, and Gerard "Jerry" Ouellette, two sisters: Sebastienne "Sib" Bourgoin, and Jeannette Lagace.
She is survived by her son Frank Dumais Jr. and wife Karen; five grand children, David Dumais and wife Sahra, Brian Dumais and wife Susan, Valarie Conley and husband Matt, Amanda Smith and husband Steve, and Janelle Lemay and husband Bill. Lorraine is also survived by seven great-grandchildren: Anna, Lucian, Aaron, Andrew, Judah, Lauren, and Benjamin.
For all the things Lorraine valued and considered precious, there was nothing she cherished more than her husband, children and grandchildren. She will be sadly missed.
A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, March 17th at 10:30am at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 75 Northern Ave, Augusta, ME. Burial will follow at Central Maine Veterans' Cemetery, 143 Blue Star Avenue, Augusta, ME.
A luncheon will be served immediately following the burial at the Calumet Club, 334 W River Rd, Augusta, ME.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lorraine's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at www.stjude.org
