Madeleine Croteau, 93, died peacefully at home Wednesday, June 8, with family by her side. Born in Biddeford on July 4, 1928 to Oscar L. and Beatrice (Pare) Peloquin, she lived in Biddeford until 1997, at which time she moved in with her eldest daughter and son-in-law in Saco.

Madeleine met and married the love of her life, Lionel "Friday" Croteau, on February 12, 1949. She was always quick to point out she bought her ice blue wedding dress in Boston. Madeleine loved to shop the latest fashion trends and was always put together from head to toe.

Madeleine worked for the City of Biddeford in the finance department, retiring in 1993. Shortly before retirement, Madeleine and her husband moved to her family's cottage that they converted to a year-round home where she lived until 1997. The home was the hub for her family, which was the center of her life. She hosted every major holiday and there was never a shortage of deliciously homecooked food. Independence Day was like Christmas in July for the family as they celebrated her birthday.

While cooking was a passion for Madeleine, her favorite hobby was knitting. She was always on needles and made countless hats, scarves, sweaters and more for family, friends, and the community.

Madeleine is predeceased by her parents, husband, and son Steve Croteau. She is survived by her daughter Patricia (and Bernard) Binette, daughter-in-law Claudette Croteau, and daughter Diane (and Peter) Bouthillette; her grandchildren Brian Binette, Jason Binette, Keith (and Megan) Croteau, Michelle (and David) Langstaff, and Emma Bouthillette; and great-grandchildren Hailey and Chase Binette, Tyler and Alex Croteau, and Benjamin Langstaff.

A private graveside service will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery in Biddeford for the family.
