Madeleine S. Wheeler
Old Orchard Beach
Madeleine S. Wheeler, 95, of Old Orchard Beach, passed away early Monday morning on December 19, 2022, in Scarborough.
She was born in Nancy, France on June 3, 1927, a daughter of Constant and Henrietta (Lemineur) Andrea.
Madeleine married Edward B. Wheeler on February 2, 1946. She came to the US from France on a troop ship to Ellis Island with their infant daughter, Betty. They took a train to Readfield, Maine and began their lives together in Fayette, where they lived for eight years. They lived in many towns where Madeleine's husband was a lumberman while she took care of the children, finally settling in Livermore in 1965. She stayed in Livermore for 32 years, until her husband passed away in 1997. She moved to Old Orchard Beach with her oldest daughter Betty. One of Madeleine's proudest moments was becoming an United States citizen on May 15, 2015, earning the right to vote.
Madeleine was a lady of faith and considered a staple of the Cornerstone Methodist Church in Saco. She volunteered at many of the church functions, including making Thanksgiving baskets, knitting for the craft fairs and cooking for the roast beef suppers. She also enjoyed knitting slippers and mittens for her grandchildren and making crafts for her family members. These cherished items hold a special place in our hearts even more so now than ever. She will be sadly missed.
She was predeceased by her husband, Edward Wheeler, one son Frank Wheeler, siblings Simone Grandemange, Odette Haskell, Michelle Andrea and Jean-Marie Andrea, step-brother Lucien Lemineux and step-sister Georgette Croux.
She is survived by five children, Betty Bouchard and husband Tom, Michael Wheeler and wife Liefe, Mark Wheeler and wife Dianna, William Wheeler and wife Sue, and Andrea Beland and husband Kevin; 13 grandchildren, Antonio, Nick, Jeff, Jen, Jasmine, Zach, Alden, Corwin, Caleb, Jacob, Christopher, Danika, and Kacie; nine great
grandchildren Victoria, Kenan, Kerem, Ayla, Marlee, Jackson, Leah, Alyza, and Oliver and one great great grandson Damon. She is also survived by one sibling Gilberte Lemineur, two half-brothers Claude and Andrea, half-sister Christienne, step-brothers Emile and Rene, step-sister Lucienne, and many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be at 11:30AM Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at Cornerstone Methodist Church, 20 Jenkins Road, Saco. Burial will be in the spring at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta.
