Maria Josephine Emery, 73, of Old Orchard Beach, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, June 16, 2024, at home.

She was born in Panama, on June7, 1951 and immigrated to the USA with her mother, Eris Corpus, stepfather Lawrence Minott, and her two brothers at a later date. The family settled in the Portland area where she attended local schools and worked at various occupations.

Maria married her husband Richard F Emery Jr. on November 28, 1992. The couple settled in Old Orchard Beach in 1993.

Maria was a homemaker who loved raising her five children. She also was devoted to all of her pets throughout her life. She was an accomplished seamstress and a very creative person, always crocheting and quilting items that she would usually give as gifts. Maria was a very curious person and had strong opinions and feelings on how life should be. She had a lot of love for her family and will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Maria will be missed by many.

Maria was predeceased by two siblings, Carlyle Minott and Mike Minott.

She is survived by her loving husband Richard F. Emery Jr., and children Roy Curt Simmons, Richard Smart Jr. and wife Andi, Carlyle Smart and wife Nicole, Shannon Emery and husband Nathan Rowe, and Ben Emery. She is also survived by grandchildren Mirabel, Elias, Lockland, and Marcellus and nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Portland, time to be announced.
