Mark Alton
Laughlin
Dec 23, 1963 — Mar 2, 2024
Mark A. Laughlin
Buxton
Mark Alton Laughlin, 60, passed away at his home in Buxton, on Saturday March 02, 2024, surrounded by his family.
Mark was born in Portland at Maine Medical Center on December 23, 1963, to Alton and Janice (Cronkite) Laughlin. He attended Portland schools, and graduated from Portland High School. He worked locally for a few years, and then moved to West Palm Beach, Florida, where he worked at a Country Club. Mark then decided to return home, back to Buxton to be with his family. He worked at a few jobs initially, and while working as a route salesman for a bread company, he met the love of his life, Amy Cantara. They were married at Woodfords Congregational Church in Portland on September 4th, 1987. The couple lived in Old Orchard until they bought their home in Buxton in 1995.
Mark began working for NYNEX in the 1980's and retired in 2014. He took some time for himself, but then went to work for Dunegrass Golf Club, a job he loved, until the Spring of 2023.
He was always involved in the lives of his children, Katie and Drake, and his granddaughter Averie. He coached Drake's baseball teams from T-Ball through Little League, and his basketball teams until middle school. Every year that he coached Drake's baseball teams he would have a Pool Party for the team and their families. He was always at Katie's dance recitals, and later at Averie's recitals as well. He loved all of them so very much.
Mark was a true "Jack-Of-All-Trades" and could fix anything from cars to computers. When his dad passed away in 2009, he took over the maintenance of his parent's home for his mother, which is located right next door. Always busy with one project or another, Mark took care of everything at both his home, and at his mother's home without a hesitation or question. When he wasn't involved in a project, Mark could be found enjoying a round of golf, or riding his Jeep or Bronco with the top down.
He was predeceased by his father Alton Laughlin, and by his brother Timothy Laughlin.
He leaves behind his wife Amy Laughlin, his daughter Katie, his son Drake, and Granddaughter Averie. He is also survived by his Mother Janice Laughlin, his two brothers: Todd and his family, and Scott and his family, his father-in-law Phil Cantara, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mark fought so hard to defeat cancer. He will be truly missed by everyone in his family.
There will be a celebration of Mark's life in the Spring where we can honor his life, and exchange stories of how he touched all of our lives.
