Mary D. Couture (Mimi)
Biddeford
Mary D. Couture, 76, of Biddeford, passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2022, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.
She was born in Hartford, Connecticut on June 19, 1945, a daughter of John and Dorothy (McCann) Reilly.
Mary graduated from Thornton Academy, class of 1963. She went on to be the first female student to attend St. Francis College known today as the University of New England in Biddeford.
On April 22, 1967, she married her husband Robert Couture. They had one child, Leslie, born a year later.
Mary's caring and generous nature lead her to a career in medical office administration. She was employed as a medical office manager: first for Dr. Polackewich in Saco, then for Dr. Thomas Anton in Biddeford and most recently for Dr. Bruce Blackman at Psychiatric Associates in Biddeford, retiring in 2017 after her 20+ years service there.
Outside of her career, she was passionate about maintaining the treasured connections made with her many high school friends near and far. Mary made an art of simply picking up the phone to say "Hi" because something sparked a memory she thought would bring a smile. She forged so many lifelong friendships and always made an effort to bring the "gangs" together. These friends and classmates continued to be an integral part of her life, right up until her passing.
Mary and Robert spent 55 years married together. They loved supporting their daughter Leslie and their grandchildren's sporting events, school activities and academic achievements. These events ranged from youth T-ball and Dance recitals, through high school events, onto college accolades. Mary made it a point to celebrate and be part of it all and made an extra special occasion out of each and every milestone of their lives.
She extended her love and generosity to her daughter and grandchildren's friends and families who know her as "Mimi". Her shopping trips, beach and pool parties as well as team dinners are unforgettable and count on Mimi to participate in any fundraiser.
Mary was the ultimate conversationalist and cheerleader and the family feels blessed to have made many special memories and to have shared these times together.
She will be sadly missed by all the lives she touched.
Mary is survived by her husband Robert Couture, her daughter Leslie Couture Mourmouras, three grandchildren Mallory, Max and Megan and brother in law Al Couture.
