Obituary

Maureen T. Johnson

Saco

Maureen T. Johnson, 81, of Saco, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2025 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.

She was born February 28, 1944, in Boston, Massachusetts, daughter of Paul and Anne (Wilson) Sullivan.

Maureen grew up in Mattapan, Massachusetts. She attended the Girls Latin School in Boston, MA.  She went on to receive her teaching degree from Boston State College.

Maureen married the love of her life, Roy Johnson, on July 15, 1967, and for a brief time they lived in Boston. They soon relocated to Youngstown, Ohio where their first daughter Kristin was born.  After a few years they moved back east and Maureen gave birth to her second daughter, Susan.  The young family lived in Derry, New Hampshire where Maureen worked at the Derry Public Library and later she received her license to work for insurance companies.  Opportunities in career advancement continued to arise for Maureen's husband, so the family had the good fortune of living in places like Ft. Scott, Kansas; Hingham, Massachusetts; Schaumburg, Illinois; and Carolina Shores, No. Carolina.  In Maine they lived in South Berwick where Maureen worked as a librarian, then after some time in Carolina Shores, they made their final home in Saco.  Here they connected with the area community and made many close friends.

Maureen had interests that were wide-spread, with domestic and international travel at the top of her list.  She was an avid reader, regularly diving into genres of history, historical fiction and mystery.  She enjoyed attending plays and musicals, and was skilled at indoor gardening.  Maureen loved taking walks regardless of the distance or destination, and could frequently be seen walking just about everywhere.

Most of all, Maureen loved spending time with her family.  She was known by all for her feisty personality. Her proudest life moments were at the birth of her children, her grandchildren, and her great-grandson. She will be dearly missed by many.

She is predeceased by her husband Roy Johnson who passed on June 13, 2019, and by her two brothers, John Sullivan and Kevin Sullivan.

Maureen is survived by her two daughters, Kristin Johnson and partner Thomas Mills, and Susan McCulloch and husband Chris; by her six grandchildren, Anna, Drew, Patrick, Mary, Maeve and Dylan; and by her great-grandson Colton.  She is also survived by her brother Michael Sullivan and wife Carol, and her nieces Jenna Sullivan and Courtney Sullivan.
