Michael J. Cleary, 75, of Old Orchard Beach and formerly of Arundel, passed away early Friday morning on July 7, 2023 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.

He was born in Biddeford on February 19, 1948, a son of John and Joan (Stickney) Cleary. He was a graduate of Biddeford High School, class of 1967.

Michael was a man of many talents with an extensive work resume. He was employed by Provencher Fuels and later drove a school bus for the Biddeford School System. He also owned and operated the 20th Century Sports Bar in Biddeford for several years. Most recently, he worked as a custodian for Thornton Academy, retiring in 2008.

Michael enjoyed playing softball and played competitively for the Lyman All Drunks. Captain of the team, they played all the local teams, enjoying many warm weather Sundays all summer long.

Michael also was a member of the Southern Maine Dart Association serving as the chairperson and playing in many tournaments.

Michael was predeceased by one sister Laura.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Annette (Belanger) Cleary, two children Robin Dube and her husband Steve and Keith Beaulieu and his wife Veronica. He is also survived by six grandchildren Seth, Gillian, Jordan, Anthony, Cameron and Dominik, five siblings Karleen, Maureen, Kathy, Kimmie and Mary, several nieces and nephews, brother in-laws Dennis, Roland and Dave and his special family the Carriers.

A Graveside Service with military honors will be held at a later date in Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery in Springvale. Arrangements are by Cote Funeral Home, Saco.

The surviving family would like to give special thanks to Cape Memory Care as well as the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House for taking such great care of Michael.
