Biddeford

Norman E. Gadbois, 75, of Biddeford, passed away Sunday afternoon on May 21, 2023, at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

He was born in Biddeford on May 1, 1948, a son of Aldeus and Cecile (Ouellette) Gadbois.  Norman was educated in the Biddeford school system, and graduated from St. Louis High School, class of 1967.  After high school, he proudly served his country in the United States Air Force.

Following his four years in the service, Norman worked for Martin's Food Stores for several years.  It was during his time with this grocery chain that he met the love of his life, Rebecca Whitehill.  They were married on September 6, 1975 and started their family. Norman, being from the generation of hard work, moved on to a 38 year career with Shaws Supermarket, retiring in 2010.

To say that Norman was an avid sports fan is an understatement.  He faithfully followed the Boston Celtics, New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox.  He was a proud supporter of local sports, especially the Biddeford Tigers where he attended games at all levels and spent countless hours following the University of New England sports teams.

Norman and Rebecca made many memories but their favorite pastime was taking ocean cruises. They enjoyed many trips with their family to various destinations, with the Caribbean Islands being their favorite. The couple also took many day trips frequenting Rockport and Bar Harbor.

Norman was quick to carry on a conversation with anyone. He enjoyed people and was genuinely interested in them. Some of his favorite quotes included "Keep It Simple", "Is This Going To Take Long", "One Day At a Time" or "Money Is No Object". These quotes will be passed on to future generations with a smile and a special story. Norman loved his family and the time they spent together. Many lasting memories were made that the family will hold on to and cherish forever. He will be sadly missed by many.

He was predeceased by his sisters Lorraine Gadbois, Therese Bourque and husband Henri Bourque, his brothers Jean Paul Gadbois, Richard Gadbois, Roger Gadbois and wife Carol Gadbois, sister-in-law Simone Gadbois, and brother-in-law John Crane IV.

He is survived by his wife Rebecca Gadbois, his daughter Karen Marcucci, his son Kevin Gadbois and wife Michele, and three grandchildren, Zachary, Cameron and Brady.  He is also survived by brothers Robert Gadbois, Michael Gadbois & partner Ann Neumann, one sister Denise Guay and husband Roger, sister-in-law Marsha Gadbois, sister-in-law Carole Gadbois, partner to Norman's brother (Roger) Wendy Lawson, sister-in-law Sylvia Crane, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Norman and Sandra Whitehill, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Michael and Ginny Lofman, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Stan and Barbara Hanson, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be from 4-7PM Monday, May 29, 2023, at Cote Funeral Home Chapel, 87 James Street, Saco. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00PM Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at St. Joseph's Church in Biddeford. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Biddeford.
