Paul N. Vadnais

Paul N. Vadnais, 87, of Saco, and formerly of Biddeford, passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2023, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.

He was born in Biddeford on April 24, 1935, a son of Alcide and Rose (Chantigny) Vadnais.

Paul graduated from St. Louis High School, class of 1954. He enlisted in the United States Army and served his country from 1954 to 1957.

Paul was from the generation of hard work. In 1958, he went to work for the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard where he remained for 14 years.  In 1972, he partnered with his brother, Leo, and continued operating Vadnais Oil after their father, Alcide, who retired. They continued operating the company for almost 50 years, well into his eighties. He treated his customers as personal friends and valued the relationships he made. Paul could be seen and will be remembered for delivering oil with a blue shirt and a necktie, a true gentleman and a man from another era.

Paul married the love of his life, Connie Danis, on September 1, 1958 at Notre Dame de Lourdes Church in Saco, and began their new life together in Biddeford and later moved to Saco, where they raised their two loving children, Ronald and Helen.

Paul was a pillar in the local community and belonged to several clubs and organizations.  He was a lifetime member of the Biddeford Saco Elks Lodge, the Biddeford & Saco Eagles, the Rochambeau Club, the AMVET Post #1, and the St. Louis Alumni Association.

Paul had many interesting hobbies and interests, but none compared to his passion for High School Football.  He always loved a good game that either involved Biddeford High School or Thornton Academy.  He liked taking trips with his wife Connie to Foxwoods for a little gambling and time away. He also enjoyed the classics, watching Columbo and the Andy Griffith Show with Barney Fife, and he also enjoyed playing Santa Claus for the family at Christmas.

He was predeceased by his parents Alcide and Rose Vadnais, his two brothers Ralph Vadnais and Leo Vadnais, his sister Mona Tate, Brother-in-law Roger Dutil, and his Son-in-law Michael Vadnais.

He is survived by his wife Constance "Connie" Vadnais, his son Ronald Vadnais and wife Delores Brazil-Vadnais, his daughter Helen Vadnais and her partner Ernie Mills, his three sisters, Bernice Vadnais, Carol Dutil and Claire Tillyer and her husband John, Brother-in-law Ivan Tate, Sister-in-law Doris Vadnais, Sister-in-law Claudette Vadnais, four grandchildren, Amanda, Marcus and his partner Alyssa Griffin, Nate, Matthew and his partner Nicole Moore, and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting Hours will be from 4PM – 8PM on Tuesday, March 28, 2023.  Visiting Hours will continue the following day from 11AM – 1PM with a Funeral Service at 1PM on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at Cote Funeral Home Chapel, 87 James Street, Saco.  Burial will follow in the family lot at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Biddeford.
