Obituary

Raymond J. Maksut

Raymond James Maksut, 83, of Saco,  passed away on the morning of Saturday, December 21, 2024, at St. Andre Health Care in Biddeford.

Ray was born in Biddeford on July 25, 1941, a son of Zenel and Elenor (Provencal) Maksut.  He grew up in Saco alongside six siblings and graduated from Thornton Academy. After graduating he became a truck driver working for ABF Corporation for many years.

Ray was a proud member of the Teamsters Union for over forty  years, standing up and protecting the rights of laborers in America. He was the type of man to say what he'd do and do what he said. He was known for helping anyone and everyone who came to him. He was a caring man who often worried for others, sometimes before himself.  He had an infectious smile and enjoyed socializing with family and friends.

Ray enjoyed hunting and fishing as well as sports. His love for the Bruins, Patriots and Red Sox was widely known by those close to him. He was an avid fan of watching his grandchildren's sporting events and can be remembered cheering them on at the ice arenas and fields. He also enjoyed playing pool with friends.

One of Ray's favorite places was Hill's Beach in Biddeford. He would go there to spend time with his family, whether it be a holiday or just an average Sunday. One of the most memorable parts of his time at the beach house was how he would, without fail, always bring roses for the women who would be there.

Most of all, he loved his family and the time they spent together. He will be sadly missed by many.

Ray was predeceased by his parents, Zenel and Elenor Maksut; by his two brothers, Carl Maksut and Zenel "Nen" Maksut, and by his four sisters, Shirley Wyman, Dorothy Johnson, Joan Nelson, and Helen "Suzie" Picard.

Ray is survived by his two children, his son Jim Maksut and his wife Deborah, and his daughter Louwana Rogers and her husband Bill; by his four grandchildren, Jessica Maksut and husband Frank, C.J. Maksut, Jonathan Dupee, and Travis Rogers. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held from 11AM-1PM Friday, December 27, 2024, at Cote Funeral Home Chapel, Saco. Burial will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Saco.
