Raymond Mercier, Sr.

Windham

Raymond Mercier Sr., 91, of Windham, passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2023, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.

He was born in Biddeford on March 16, 1932, a son of David and Mary (Biggar) Mercier. He graduated from Thornton Academy.

He married Irene Anita Leahy of Biddeford, Maine with whom he had two sons. He enlisted in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. After the service, he took employment in Burlington, Massachusetts with High Voltage Engineering – Ion Physics. The family moved to California in the early 1960's and Ray worked for Hughes Research Lab in Malibu. In 1967, after moving back to New England, Ray started a new career selling financial products and insurance, earning a Chartered Life Underwriter certification.

In 1971 Ray married Lydia Madellyn (Haight) Morrow. They would move to Windham, Maine and were married for 51 years. Ray worked for the Maine Credit Union League and traveled throughout the entire State of Maine. He really enjoyed his line of work helping families invest in their future. He made many friends and cherished the relationships he made.

Ray was known for remodeling his homes and constantly improving things around the house. He did this multiple times throughout his life. Ray and Lydia were known to family and friends as Fuzzy and Muzzy and they called each other by these names.

He was predeceased by his wife Lydia Mercier and siblings Mary Renell, Helen Snow, Virginia Scammon, David Mercier and Thomas Mercier.

He is survived by two sons Raymond Mercier Jr. and Scott Alan Mercier. He is also survived by his step children Douglas S. Morrow, Gregory J. Morrow, Joyce C. Booker and James E. Morrow.

A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held at 2PM Friday, April 28, 2023, in Laurel Hill Cemetery in Saco.
