Real J. Caron

Real J. Caron, 96, formerly of Biddeford, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 1, 2022, at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen, Massachusetts.

Real was born in Baker Lake, New Brunswick, Canada, on April 29, 1925, a son of Albert and Amadee (Soucy) Caron. In 1926, Real's family moved from New Brunswick to Maine. He was educated in Saco, receiving his diploma from Thornton Academy.

Real joined the United States Air Force in 1943 and served in World War II as a turret gunner. In 1945 during a mission in Italy, he was pulled from his B24 after the door tore away, fortunately able to deploy his parachute and drift to the ground in the front lines of the American forces. He was honorably discharged in 1945.

Real married his wife, Helen (Danis) Caron, on July 3, 1948, and together they raised their son, Richard.

After Real was discharged from the military, he went on to work at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a Nuclear Engineer Technician. He retired in 1980, after an impressive 30 years with the shipyard.

Real was a communicant of Most Holy Trinity Church, in the Good Shepherd Parish, Saco.

Real had many interesting hobbies. He thoroughly enjoyed woodworking. His time in the Air Force led to a lifetime love of aviation. Real was also a member of the St. Louis Alumni Association, as well as the 50 Plus Club.

Most of all, Real loved the time spent with family and friends. He will be sadly missed.

Real was predeceased by his brother Joseph R.A. Caron, JR. in 1977; his father, Albert Caron, in 1977; his mother, Amedee Caron, in 1994; his brother Roger Caron in 1991; his wife, Helen Caron, in 2015; his son, Richard Caron, in 2015; his brother Roland Caron in 2015; and his brother Raymond Caron in 2008.

Real is survived by his brother Patrick Caron; his two granddaughters, Melissa Andersen and her husband, Eric, and Rebekah Michienzi and her husband, Justin; and his daughter-in-law, Margaret Caron.
