Richard "Dick" Cadmus, 87, passed away peacefully at home on May 13, 2024 with his family by his side. He was born May 30, 1936, in New Brunswick, New Jersey, son of Richard M. and Elizabeth (Henderson) Cadmus.

Dick grew up in Spotswood NJ, graduating from South River High School in 1954. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1959 from Rutgers University.  It was during his time at Rutgers when he met the love of his life, Judy Van Pelt.  After graduating, the couple married on July 11, 1959 and began their life together in Metuchen. Dick enlisted in the United States Air Force and soon was stationed at RAF Sculthorpe, England.  He was commissioned as 1st Lieutenant and was head of the motor pool, overseeing approximately 60 servicemen.

After receiving his discharge in 1962, Dick and Judy moved back to New Jersey where Dick began an extensive and successful career in the oil and gas industry; first working for Transcontinental Gas, Foster Wheeler.  Dick and his family relocated to Litchfield CT working for the Bristol Company, to Foxborough MA working for both The Foxboro Co. and for Digital Equipment, to Cleveland OH working for Bailey Controls.  In 1999, upon his retirement, Dick and Judy made their last move to Wells, Maine, where they became an integral part of the community.

Dick had a passion for serving others, having served on the Budget Committee and on the Zoning Board of Appeals for the Town of Wells. Dick also spent time volunteering, going on mission trips to New Orleans after hurricane Katrina, on mission trips to serve Maine Seacoast Mission, and volunteering with Habitat for Humanity.  Born out of their love of helping, both Dick and Judy helped form W.I.O.N.N. (Welcoming Immigrants, Our New Neighbors) where they worked to meet the many needs of new settlers coming from far away.

Dick had interests that were wide-spread, but the majority of them had something to do with the sea.  For a number of years Dick and Judy spent their summers on Hog Island in Narragansett Bay with their friends and family.  He enjoyed boating both in Narragansett Bay and in Wells Harbor, ocean fishing and clamming.

Dick made friends wherever he went.  Friends old and new would gravitate to his garage just to see what the latest project was, and to spend time with this man who knew so much.  He will be dearly missed by many, especially by his family.

Dick is survived by his loving wife, Judy Cadmus; by his son, Steven Cadmus and wife Cheryl; by his daughter Cheryl Cadmus and husband Edward Strachan; by his daughter Margi Cadmus and partner Gerry Nkwantah; and by his four grandchildren: Rebecca Cadmus, Nicholas Cadmus, Louisa Strachan, and William Strachan.

Visiting Hours will be from 1:00pm to 3:00pm, with a funeral service beginning at 3:00pm on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at Cote Funeral Home Chapel, Saco.
