Richard A. Martin

Richard A. Martin, 72, of Biddeford, and formerly of Saco, passed away on Monday, December 23, 2024, at Sedgewood Commons in Falmouth after a long illness. He had Parkinson's Disease and Lewy Body Dementia.

He was born in Biddeford on September 9, 1952, a son of Cyprien and Adrienne (Marin) Martin.

Richard graduated from Thornton Academy, class of 1970, He was a standout baseball player and was selected to the All State Basketball Team his senior year. After high school he went on to Thomas College in Waterville and played basketball for one season.

Richard was a self- employed building contractor for thirty-one years. He cherished the relationships and friendships he made during this time. He was a skilled finish carpenter and an incredible craftsman who built furniture and made wooden toys for his grandson, Andrew.

Always a sports fan Richard played men's softball, umpired middle school and high school girls softball, and coached girls' high school softball for nine years at Thornton Academy. He was inducted into the Thornton Academy 2021 Athletic Hall of Fame for his basketball and baseball accomplishments at TA. He was proud of his two daughters, Melina and Jen, and his two stepdaughters, Katie and Jenny, when they chose to play sports at TA. He was one of their biggest fans!

Everyone who knew Dick knew how much he loved to go freshwater fishing with friends and family. In the winter he enjoyed smelting with his brother Roger and his nephews Keil and Kory.

After Richard retired from his business he spent several years working for the OOB School system. He developed some wonderful friendships with the people there.

He was predeceased by his parents, one brother Alberick Martin, and one sister Pauline Frazier.

He is survived by his wife Janine Martin, daughters Melina Martin, Jennifer Martin, and stepdaughters Jennifer Pierpont and Katie Pierpont, and his grandson Andrew Bouthot. He is also survived by siblings Anne-Marie Rousselle and husband Roland, Patricia Beaudoin and husband Roland, Goderick Martin and wife Jeanne, Frederick Martin and wife Vivian, Alderick Martin, and Roger Martin and wife Mary Ann. He had many nieces and nephews and loved them all very much.

We want to thank Jen Scavuzzo, his caretaker from Home Instead, for her help caring for Richard so that he could stay home as long as possible. We want to thank the hospice team from Affinity for the wonderful care they gave Richard at Sedgewood Commons. We also want to thank the hard working, dedicated, caring staff at Sedgewood Commons.
