Richard R. Sullivan Jr,, 92 of Dayton, passed away peacefully early Saturday morning on March 21, 2026 at Pine Point Center in Scarborough. Dick was born on July 29, 1933 in Boston, Massachusetts to Richard and Edna Sullivan. The oldest of four brothers, Dick grew up in Roslindale and graduated from Boston College High School in 1950. A veteran of the Korean War, Dick served in both the Army and Air Force from 1953-1955. After his service, Dick was employed by ComElectric as a mechanic and retired as the Director of Transportation.

Dick was always happiest at sea and owned a boat since childhood. He married his beloved wife Nancy on November 16, 1957. Dick and Nancy's fondest memories were of their time spent on Martha's Vineyard, either on their boat or hosting friends and family at their home on the island.

In 1999, Dick traded his boat and house on Martha's Vineyard for John Deere tractors and a house in Dayton, ME to be closer to his granddaughter, Brianna. Dick formed close friendships with his neighbors and loved the Dayton community. He was very proud of his precisely mowed lawn in the summer and his perfectly plowed driveway in the winter.

In his final years, Dick's most favorite time of the week was taking his daughter Kathleen out to breakfast on Saturday mornings in Buxton—an activity that both privately insisted to Brianna that they only did because the other loved it so much.

Dick is survived by his daughter Kathleen Mattia of Old Orchard Beach, his granddaughter Brianna Mattia of Chicago, IL; brother Daniel Sullivan of Penhook, Virginia; brother Donald and wife Judy of Wareham, MA, his nieces and nephews, extended family, his treasured friends and neighbors, and his grand-dog Maggie, who would run up and down the hallway of his house—always so excited to see her grandpa.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 61 years, Nancy, his brother Robert, and his son-in-law Vincent Mattia.

Visitation will be from 10-11AM, with a Funeral Service at 11AM Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Cote Funeral Home Chapel, Saco. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Saco.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the scholarship established in honor of his son-in law, the Sgt. Vincent Mattia Memorial Scholarship, which is awarded each year to an Old Orchard Beach High School senior intending to study criminal justice and/or law enforcement.
