Obituary

Rita Levasseur

Saco

Rita Rose (Binette) Levasseur, 82, passed away peacefully in her sleep Sunday, June 22nd, at her home in Saco.

Rita was born in Biddeford on February 13th, 1943, a daughter of Raoul and Violette (Arel) Binette.  Rita was born and raised alongside her five siblings in Biddeford. She was educated and graduated in the Catholic Schools in Biddeford.

She moved to Saco and got married to her husband, Joseph Levasseur, in 1964 and spent sixty-one years by each other's side. During high school she started working for White Star Laundry and worked there until she became pregnant with her first child in 1965.

From 1965 to the mid 1970's she became a homemaker and raised her three children. Afterward she started working alongside her husband at their family jewelry shop, Levasseur's Jewelry, as the shop's engraver. She worked there until her retirement in 2015.

Rita was a part of many groups during her lifetime including TOPS ME186 Saco where she served as treasurer for many years, the Knights of Columbus Women's Auxiliary where she also served as treasurer, and Saco Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

In her younger days, she would make clothes for her children and insisted on making matching outfits for them even though she did not have a pair of twins. Rita immensely enjoyed watching the Hallmark Channel and would watch it whenever she had some time to relax.

Many who knew her knew of her love for traveling around New England. She would get in her car and could drive for hours without needing to stop. She would have outings with her family and friends and some would say that, even in her old age, they had a hard time keeping up with her. She was known to go to Niagara Fall, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey to enjoy some time with her family.

However, more than anything, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends who will miss her dearly.

Rita was predeceased by her mother Violette (Arel) Binette, her father Raoul Binette, two of her sisters: Claire Zales and Carmen Perreault, and her son-in-law Gerald Guillerault.

Rita is survived by her husband: Joseph "Joe" Levasseur, her two daughters: Debra Guillerault, and Celeste Underwood and husband Greg, her son: Michael Levasseur and wife Heather, her two brothers: Raoul Binette Jr., and Bernard Binette and wife Patricia, her sister: Ruth Larochelle and husband Harvey, and her five grandchildren: Brett Levasseur, Samuel Underwood, Thomas Levasseur, Victoria Underwood, and Claire Guillerault.

A Graveside Service will take place on Tuesday, July 1st, 2025, at 12pm at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Saco.
