Robert A. Benson Sr.
Saco
Robert A. Benson Sr., 79, passed away early Wednesday morning on July 16th, in Scarborough.
Robert was born in Biddeford, on June 30th, 1946, a son of Alton and Ruth (Adams) Benson.
Robert was raised alongside his eight siblings and graduated from Sanford High School in 1966.
Robert met and later married his wife, Florence "Pee-wee" Rossignol, on July 1st, 1967, and together they raised their son Bob and daughter Lisa.
After high school, Robert started working for General Dynamics in Saco. After 44 years, he retired in 2010. While at General Dynamics, he served as a shop steward and was a member of the executive board.
In his free time, Robert also worked at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough as a tire-man for over 20 years as a hobby. He was well known for his passion for hunting and his love for the outdoors. He especially enjoyed spending time on the lakes and taking Sunday drives with his wife, Flo. But more than anything, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He would often tell his daughter, Lisa, that he needed his grandchildren's help around the house, only to take them out and around town for fun outings in secret.
Robert was predeceased by his wife: Florence (Rossignol) Benson, and his four sisters: Sue Campbell, Shirley Gilbert, Betty Cote, and Marilyn Cote and her husband Phil.
Robert is survived by his son: Robert "Bob" Benson Jr., his daughter: Lisa Hersey, his two brothers: Ronny Benson and his wife Debbie, and Andy Belisle, his two sisters: Mickey Adams and her husband Bob, and Bev Jackson and her husband Allan, his brother in law: Wayne Gilbert, his five grandchildren: Joshua, Kyle, Brandon, Connor, and Justin, his four great-grandchildren: Zachariah, Dawson, Aleia, Blake, and two on the way. As well as many nieces and nephews.
Visiting Hours will be held from 10AM-12PM on Monday, July 21st, with a Funeral Service at 12PM at Cote Funeral Home, Saco. A Graveside Service will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Biddeford.
