Roger "Blueberry" Berry

Roger "Blueberry" Berry, 67, of Saco, passed away early Wednesday morning on October 6, 2021, after bravely battling lung cancer. He passed peacefully at home surrounded in love by his family.

He was born in Biddeford on September 12, 1954, a son of James and Lillian (Allen) Berry. He graduated from Thornton Academy, class of 1972.

Roger was employed in the building / construction industry for 40 years. He enjoyed the trade and spent many years perfecting his craft. He used his knowledge and abilities to help others, whether it was his family, friends or his community. He donated his efforts to the mile long boardwalk trail of the 1223 acre Saco Heath Preserve. He also volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, receiving the "Golden Hammer Award", for an individual who has helped build self reliance, stability and a better future of others in need of a place to live.

Another cause that Roger supported was helping others with alcohol addiction and recovery, something he did for over 30 years.

When Roger was not working or volunteering he enjoyed hiking, fishing, target shooting and time outdoors. Roger also had a deep appreciation for classic film and television, particularly old westerns starring John Wayne, Clint Eastwood and other classic Hollywood film actors. But most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends. He will be remembered as loving, giving and caring person. He will be sadly missed.

Roger was a member of the United Baptist Church of Saco.

He was predeceased by his parents James and Lillian Berry.

He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Wendy (Waycott) Berry, his daughters Tanya Marie Thompson, Allyson Lynn Palumbo and husband Anthony and Amber Rae Thompson and partner Darren Seany. He is also survived by two sisters Beverly Goff and Tom Parent, Joyce Berry and husband Richard Spellman, nieces Melissa Levine and Amber Swett and nephew Jeffrey Levine as well as many other beloved family members and treasured lifelong friends.
